What’s Happening in Lakewood CA

Here are just a few things going on in the Lakewood Community.  Take a minute and look them over.

Safety Center classes and special resources There are many interesting, rewarding and free safety classes being offered at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Community Safety Center! Bulky item pick-up program If 2014 finds your home awash with debris, the city’s bulky item pickup program offers a convenient way to get rid of old appliances, electronics and furniture. Also, that pesky Styrofoam that’s so much a part of holiday packaging can now be put into your blue recycling cart.
Lakewood also encourages the donation or reuse of many of these same items. There are numerous local shelters, non-profit organizations, repair shops, thrift stores, consignment stores and second-hand stores that may be willing to take your unwanted household items.

Coaches needed for youth sports programs Adult volunteers are needed to coach Lakewood Youth Sports basketball teams this season. Teams will practice and play league games on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings through March 8. Coaches volunteer an average of 3-4 hours per week. There are 1-2 practices and 1-2 games per week. Check with your local park for details on how to get involved, or call 562-866-9771, extension 2408. [FULL STORY]

Afterschool Activity Zone  Lakewood parks offer free after-school activities including homework help, crafts, and sports instruction. Students will have a variety of things to participate in while parents can be assured that their children are properly supervised in a safe and creative environment. [FULL STORY]

Suggest ‘Volunteer Day’ project sites On Saturday, April 26, hundreds of Lakewood residents will fan out across the city to spruce up the yard or home exterior of fellow Lakewood residents in need. Please help them find Lakewood homes to work on. Qualifying sites need to be private homes in Lakewood owned by a Lakewood resident. Recipients of help can be seniors or persons of any age who, because of disability or limited economic means, need some neighborly help to make their yard or home exterior a little nicer. Before going into real estate in 2001, I worked in the medical field. Found it very rewarding helping others and decided to make a switch and help those, who want to achieve the "American Dream". As a homeowner, I know the importance of home ownership and nothing gives me more pleasure than to place those keys into the hands of a new homeowner. I look forward to helping you, with all your real estate needs.
