Two major park improvements coming to Lakewood
The Veterans Memorial Plaza at the jet plane at Del Valle Park will be renovated and expanded in time for Memorial Day in 2015. And a new pumpkin carriage and expanded Cinderella theme will come to the school-age playground at San Martin Park by the end of 2014.

Free battery collection kits at city hall
Convenient plastic battery collection containers can be picked up at the public works counter in city hall. The free green collection containers can be used to gather spent household single-use and rechargeable batteries ONLY.

They can later be dropped off at city hall and many electronics retailers.

Air conditioned facilities provide heat relief for seniors
Triple-digit temperatures are hitting Southern California early this year. Older residents can feel more distress from heat and humidity and often have fewer options for beating the heat. The City of Lakewood wants to remind seniors that the air-conditioned Weingart Senior Center is a comfortable oasis, especially during the hottest time of the day–from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Seniors can use the free DASH Transit service as transportation to Weingart if they can’t drive or don’t have a ride. For more information on DASH call 562-924-0149.

60th Anniversary galleries are displayed online
Hundreds of residents attended Lakewood’s 60th Anniversary Open House at The Centre at Sycamore Plaza on March 21. Even if you couldn’t attend the event, you can still view the extensive galleries online.

Collections include historic Lakewood photos and many submitted by Lakewood residents. Photos are viewable at Lakwood’s community gallery at

Volunteer sports coaches needed
Volunteer coaches are needed for baseball, softball and T-ball teams for the summer season at all Lakewood parks. Although moms and dads of players make great coaches, it’s not necessary to have a child playing to enjoy the volunteer experience. No coaching experience is necessary. City staff will provide the appropriate training. Inquire at any Lakewood park for complete details or call 562-866-9771, extension 2408.

Volunteering is easy. Just ask at any Lakewood park or click to use our online form.

Before going into real estate in 2001, I worked in the medical field. Found it very rewarding helping others and decided to make a switch and help those, who want to achieve the "American Dream". As a homeowner, I know the importance of home ownership and nothing gives me more pleasure than to place those keys into the hands of a new homeowner. I look forward to helping you, with all your real estate needs.
