Lakewood CA, my home town!

Fun and facts at Lakewood’s State of the City

The “most boring city in California” designation that Lakewood received from a real estate website in 2014 was used for some good-natured humor–and for driving home some serious points–at the annual State of the City luncheon on January 26 at The Centre at Sycamore Plaza.

The luncheon included the premiere showing of Lakewood’s always fun and informative annual report video produced by the city’s award-winning CityTV team. This year, the video parodied the popular MythBusters TV show to examine whether Lakewood was deserving of the title of Snooze-ville, California.

Mayor Todd Rogers followed with remarks that expanded on the boring theme, showing where boring can be a good thing and showing family-friendly ways where Lakewood is quite exciting, such as new park and transportation projects.

Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Captain Keith Swensson also spoke, providing details about crime trends, including the decline in burglaries and property crime in Lakewood over the past year. Swensson talked about the continuing value of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign and how Lakewood has taken it to heart. Lakewood residents are great about reporting unusual activity in their neighborhoods to the Sheriff’s Department, Swensson said, which in at least 10 cases last year led to the arrests of burglary suspects. Those residents were honored by the city this past November at the annual Award of Valor luncheon.

Re-broadcasts of the State of the City video, including remarks from speakers, will run on CityTV Channel 31 from February 8 to 26 (on Sundays and Thursdays at 12:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.). CityTV can be seen on channel 31 on TimeWarner Cable and Verizon FiOS and streaming live on the city’s website. Also starting February 8, the annual report video itself can be viewed 24/7 at www.lakewoodcity.org/cityTV.

Before going into real estate in 2001, I worked in the medical field. Found it very rewarding helping others and decided to make a switch and help those, who want to achieve the "American Dream". As a homeowner, I know the importance of home ownership and nothing gives me more pleasure than to place those keys into the hands of a new homeowner. I look forward to helping you, with all your real estate needs.
