|Drivers should avoid Del Amo Boulevard between Clark Avenue and Downey Avenue if at all possible during the next two weeks. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 14, a grinding-and-paving “assembly line” of heavy equipment and dump trucks will be working that area. Drivers may want to consider alternative east-west routes, such as Carson Street, Candlewood Street and South Street.
Drivers will see a lane or two of Del Amo Boulevard occasionally closed off for this work, but at all times at least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open.
The work is part of the City of Lakewood’s ongoing commitment to keep its roads in excellent shape. In this project, a major portion of Del Amo Boulevard will get a fresh road repaving and repair of its gutters. The portion of Del Amo Boulevard one block either side of Lakewood Boulevard will not be repaved at this time. That section will get repaved next year as part of a major project to construct dual left-turn lanes at the Del Amo/Lakewood intersection to improve traffic flow. In 2013, the City of Lakewood completed the 100% repaving of all city streets. Lakewood’s residential streets should be able to go many years now without repaving. But heavily travelled roadways like Del Amo Boulevard will need periodic repaving to stay in top shape. With any questions about the Del Amo repaving, call 562-866-9771, extension 2140.
